Judge Robert E. Jones (1927-2025)
The US District Court of Oregon Historical Society is saddened to learn of the passing of a dear friend, a bright light, and a great figure in Oregon’s legal history, Judge Robert E. Jones. We fondly remember him at our November 2024 Annual meeting and at so many other events throughout the years.

Chief Judge Michael McShane shared this note with Judge Jones’ court colleagues and friends. “Judge Jones was an abiding force for good. He led an exemplary life of public service with the Navy Judge Advocate General Corps, Oregon House of Representatives, Multnomah County Court, Oregon Supreme Court, and U.S. District Court. Deeply loved and respected by his colleagues, members of the bar, his students, and unbounded circles of family and friends, Judge Jones influenced our world in countless, positive ways.”
We are so grateful for Judge Jones participation in capturing the history of the court. His oral history was conducted in 2005, and is the basis for this 2007 article. He received our organization’s Lifetime Service Award in 2015. We extend our condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
